Our Dope Fit Chick of the week is Fitness Influencer Nay Jones! Read our interview with her and find out what motivates her to work out and her best 3 health tips for you!

What motivates you to work out and live a healthy lifestyle?

I’ve been running track since I was about 6 and also tam for the university of Georgia on a scholarship so I have always been and athlete and had a love for sports. I choose this lifestyle because I love to look and feel my best. There is nothing better than the confidence I feel after a good workout and seeing the results as my body changes. I have complete control over how I want to look and I love that.

What does your workout routine look like?

I like to train at least 3x a week and I always train with weights. I love resistance training because I love to keep my lower body shapely and curvy and resistance training is necessary to achieve that.

What do you eat in a typical day to stay in shape?

I am currently not competing or training to lose weight so I am not on any particular diet. I have a mesomorph body type where I put on muscle very easily and have a hard time putting on fat so I actually have to push myself to stay in a caloric surplus in order to maintain my weight. If I miss a meal I’ll loose weight lol.

How do you maintain your hair while working out?

I am currently wearing braids which is so convenient when it comes to training , I love them. But if I am not wearing braids then I usually use flexy rods at night so that my hair looks neat and styled. I’ve actually been doing hair since I was about 15 so I am lucky because I am able to maintain it without visiting the hair dresser.

What's in your gym bag?

My gym bag contains resistance bands, ankle cuff for cable workouts , headphones , water bottle , my tripod and selfie remote.

What might we catch you doing outside the gym?

If I am not in the gym I am doing something either my little girl. She’s my little side kick so we might do an art project , make DIY homemade facial mask , or hit the movies. We like doing a lot of DIY projects for fun.

How do you create the balance between being a mom, and making time to workout?

For me this is very easy. My daughter is 11 and she is in school most of the afternoon. Once she gets on the bus at 7 am I know that I have until 3 pm to do everything I need to do before I pick her up from school. While she is in school I take time for myself and I try to schedule what content , calls , meetings or errands I need to do during the week so that my week doesn’t get too far off track.

What are your best 3 health tips for everyone?

Drink water , take time out of your day for yourself, whether it is for mental health , physical health or whatever. Always take a few moments to yourself. Do something everyday toward your goal. Whether it’s send an email , make an important call , network etc. Do something to contribute to your life or career goal.
