About Mariah :

I am 28 years old and a personal trainer in Beaumont, Texas. I also teach some classes like barre and water aerobics and I’m currently working on my yoga certification! I got my degree from Lamar University in 2014 in Exercise Science and Fitness management with a minor in Kinesiology teaching. I am also certified through ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine). I currently work at a gym called Exygon and train several people a day and teach classes a couple of times a week

What motivates you to work out and live a healthy lifestyle?

There are a couple of things that motivate me. I lost 80ish pounds myself back in 2013 and from there I knew I wanted to help others. Also, we have a ton of health conditions in our family like heart disease, high blood pressure and cancer and I began living a healthy life style to help me get ahead of this! Lastly I have joint and other health issues that would be way worse if I weren’t working out. I have had 3 knee surgeries, asthma, and low back issues from an accident. Working out makes me feel so much better all around!

What does your workout routine look like?

I try to workout 5-6 times a week making sure one day I rest for sure and one of those days is more of an active rest day with light cardio and stretching. I like doing legs Monday, hiit workouts Tuesday and Thursday, and upper body Wednesday and core on Fridays! It doesn’t always happen but that is the goal! I do cardio everyday and mix it up, some days stairmaster, some elliptical, and most peloton!

What do you eat in a typical day to stay in shape?

I fast until about 12 or 1 and Typically start the day with celery juice and or coffee. I love drinking fresh juices throughout the day. My first meal around 1 is normally something I’ve prepped like a stir fry with vegetables, beans, and either tofu or meat (I eat meat but not too much- everything in moderation) and then I’ll have a snack like almonds and a protein shake or apples and peanut butter. Dinner I normally have a large salad with fish or something along those lines. I try to drink a gallon of high alkaline water a day.

How do you maintain your hair while working out?

A bun or I a ponytail are my go -to’s but I also love wearing my hair in French braids because they’re so easy!

What's in your gym bag?

Towels, gloves, resistance bands, hand sanitizer, wipes, shaker bottle, protein (I take it on days when I go really hard on workouts) , deodorant spray, almonds, extra ponytail holders, stretching bands, change of clothes.

What might we catch you doing outside the gym?

Watching tv, cooking, fishing, enjoying outside taking walks, studying (yoga and continuing education for training), movies, lounging lol

What are your best 3 health tips people can implement right now?

Drink more water. Get more sleep. Stretch daily.
